Nicknamed the "Parrocel of Battles", the artist is a pupil of Jacques Courtois (1621-1676), the famous 17th century battle painter, who made the theme of the cavalry clash his main iconographic motif.
In 1676, he presented himself to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture with several paintings, in which he conformed to the principles of representation of the topographical battle following Van der Meulen. After 1680, Parrocel received numerous commissions for decorations by Louvois and Louis XIV.
