19th century FRENCH school: Portrait of Alexandre-Pierre-Amédée Godeau d'Entraigues, Prefect of Indre et Loire. Oil on canvas. Annotation on the back Dufasne. 41 x 33 cm. Provenance: Private castle in the Centre region, kept in the Portraiture family. Born on 6 July 1785 in Châtillon-sur-Indre, Indre, Amédée d'Entraigues, married at the castle of Valençay Anne Francesca Publicola, born in Rome in 1790, daughter of Antoine, Prince of Santa Croce and Princess Falconicri, niece of Pius VI, and ward of Duke Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord. An unlucky sailor, he was wounded at the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805. Having left the arms, close to the Duke of Talleyrand-Périgord, he was appointed auditor at the Conseil d'État on 19 January 1810, and embarked on an administrative career as sub-prefect in Lille, 30 January/16 March 1812, Gorcum, 8 April/23 May 1813, Saint-Pol, 6 January/15 March 1814. He left office on April 25, 1815. The Restoration kept him away from all administrative and political activity. Louis-Philippe's regime brought him to the prefecture of Indre-et-Loire, 2/5 August 1830, master of petitions at the Conseil d'État in 1833. He left office on 17 January 1847. He was appointed Honorary State Councillor in January 1847. He died in his castle of La Moustière, commune of Vicq-sur-Nahon, on 21 August 1856. A street in Tours has been named after him since 1856.
