GELLEE CLAUDE DIT LE LORRAIN (Continued from)
1600 - 1682
Landscape at sunset with villagers on the way
Oil on panel. Oak (old dirty varnish).
On the reverse side red wax stamp "Collection Charles Renouvin",
and two black wax seals; traces of penmanship.

The red wax stamp with a lyre in the centre is most likely a reference to Charles Renouvin (Caudebec 1814 - ?) poet (La poésie des fleurs), essayist (La tête humaine, étude illustrée de phrénologie et de physionomie appliquée aux hommes célèbres, 1873)) and man of letters (Poésie de l'art et des lettres, 1872).
