The Reverend Father Spirit - Afflicted Piety or Historical and Theological Discourse on the Possession of the Sisters of Saint Elizabeth of Louviers. Rouen, Jean Le Boulenger, 1652. BROTHER I, 132. Provincial preacher of the Capuchins of the province of Normandy, born in Rouen, died in the same city in 1655. The work was considered scandalous. It is dedicated to the Duke of Longueville and is divided into three books: in the first one it deals with visions, apparitions, spells, etc.; in the second one it details the possessions caused by magic in the monastery of Louviers and in the third one it reports the confessions of the possessed, in particular the charges and confessions of Magdeleine de Bavan, the charges and accusations against Mathurin Picard, parish priest of Mesnil-Jourdain and against Thomas Boullé. Original edition: ''One of the most curious erotic-mystical works of the seventeenth century. (...) In addition, the author deals with magic, visions, apparitions, spells, etc.' Handwritten ex-libris of the Saint-Arnould Abbey in Metz.
