AMBETE or related, Gabon. Old female statue covered with a very old crusty black patina. It has retained its original finery: a headdress of natural fibres and red strips of fabric, a belt holding a bag full of magical substances on the belly. At the back of the statue, a deep square-shaped hole has also retained its original charge. Brought back with two Ambété statues by Monsignor Emile Elie Verhille, Bishop of the Diocese of Owando from 1955 to 1968. Height: 38 cm - Collection Mr and Mrs Cuvillier - Provenance: Sale Chanel in Lille on 26/11/2006.
