PEREDIL (Caucasus), late 19th century
On a sea field, amidst flowers, animals, "S", diamonds and other multicoloured symbols, stands an octagonal ivory medallion with flowers, signed and dated 1331 A.D. (1909 A.D.). It is the centre of gravity around which are six magnificent polychrome Kindjals (Caucasian daggers) with ram's horn-shaped guards, four important two-coloured "Kotchaks" (ram's horn), two stylised eagles with brick, ivory and gold branches, and fourteen ivory and old gold birds. The main turquoise border has a succession of caissons decorated with star-shaped flowers, and is flanked by an ivory counter border with cruciform flowers, an undulating ribbon on a brick ground, and another brick border decorated with carnations on stems. Bicolour external braid, serrated. Exceptional pallet.
