AKSTAFA (Caucasus), late 19th century
A sea field decorated with a multitude of animals, figures, flowers, crosses, ornaments and combs, completed by an inscription Abjad, houses eight diamond-shaped medallions with polychrome hooks decorated with hourglasses and stylised insects. The decoration is completed with four trees of life and four small boxes. The frame is formed of two sky-borders with star-shaped flowers, enclosing the main border, with a succession of ivory caissons decorated with geometric floral compositions, segmented with ivory arrowheads in opposition.
