Eugène-François Vidocq (1775-1857) was a criminal and convict. After journeys in the convicts of Brest and Toulouse, he became an informer and police officer, the Prefect of Police Pasquier having unofficially placed him at the head of the Security Brigade, a service whose members were former convicts who had to infiltrate the area.
Vidocq became Chief of Security before opening in Saint-Mandé, under the cover of "Paper Manufacturer", an agency of private detectives
