Report of the battle of Marengo, won on 25 Prairial year 8, by Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul, commander in person of the French reserve army, on the Austrians, under the orders of Lieutenant-General Mélas. Paris, imperial printing house, 1806. In-4 of an engraved frontispiece, 1 f.n.ch. (faux-title), 40 pp., 1 large folding board, 5 plans and a large view engraved folding; rooted calf, imperial coat of arms in the centre of the dishes, large floral roller in frame with a star in each corner, smooth back decorated with special irons (eagle, holding a feather, laurel wreath, arms), roller on the cups, guards and pink paper lining, gold edges (period binding in the Bozerian style). Monglond, VI, 573. Original edition. Report on the Battle of Marengo. The victorious outcome of the battle was exploited by extensive propaganda led by the First Consul. The frontispiece, engraved by Pauquet after Vernet, shows Napoleon during the battle, the plans after Giraldon illustrate the movements of the troops, and the large view by Coiny after Bagetti shows the glorious end of the battle. The binding is in the taste of Bozerian. More pronounced freckles on the boards, poorly folded boards, large view with no missing slit; cracked jaws.
