Golden
beech Stamped I. BOUCAULT H. 95 cm, W. 74 cm, D. 72 cm
This pair of beech "convertible" backrest shepherds moulded, carved and gilded presents a floral decoration and whiplash armrest consoles. The whole rests on four curved legs.
Son of Louis Boucault, Jean mainly produced high-quality Louis
XV and Transition model seats, elegant, discreetly sculpted or even simply moulded. He also provided the Crown's storage space, as evidenced by several chairs bearing the mark on the fire of the Château de Versailles. His clients were also the Duke of Choiseul and Louise Elisabeth, Duchess of Parma. We can mention a series of "Queen's chairs" whose model seems to have inspired or was inspired by our pair (fig. 1).
