COMMODE Veneer of amaranth and gilded bronze, brocatelle marble H. 75 cm, W. 145 cm, D. 60 cm
Like the tomb chests of drawers, the Regency chests of drawers with two drawers will see their shape evolve towards greater flexibility. Like these, they retain for a time the sturdy lines and the Louis XIV bronze decoration. Then the face, at first simply curved, adopts an arched camber, more flexible, the sides bend in their turn, the apron is cut with more fantasy, the bronzes submit to the rockery.
This chest of drawers is inlaid with amaranth in curling and reserves of yarn with wide nets; it has a curved shape and opens on the front with two large drawers and a crosspiece. A notable feature of this chest of drawers is that it also features two leaves opening on the sides. Finally, the discreet curves that animate the entire piece of furniture already herald the Louis XV style.
