*CONTINUATION OF 4 PANELS OF LAQUER AND ENGRAVINGS CUTTED "Art of Cutting" Around 1760 H. 172 cm, L. 68 cm These panels represent four charming and bucolic scenes. Often confused with the Italian process called arte povera, used for furniture and small boxes, decorated with engravings of poor quality; the French "art of cutting" used to make these four panels was an elaborate and expensive technique. The size and quality of the French engravings, the delicacy of the colours and the finesse of the lacquer application make it a unique art. Alexis Peyrotte is a French ornamental painter. At the beginning of his career, he painted in the Carpentras region, then his reputation brought him to Paris in 1736. He decorated the King and Queen's apartments in Versailles (theatre of small cabinets), then the painted panelling of the apartments of the Marquise de Pompadour at the Château de Choisy, the theatre of the Château de Bellevue in Meudon. In 1753, he worked at the Château de Fontainebleau. These panels of exceptional quality and in perfect condition are one of the rare examples of this important decorative technique, which was highly prized in France in the 18th century.
