Crossing the bridge, China, late 19th century Folded fan, double sheet of gouache wallpaper with 40 characters, front and back, animating various pavilions opening onto a garden and a river. On one side, a messenger, whose horse is waiting outside, stands in front of a dignitary. On the other side, the messenger is on horseback at the door of the estate. All the characters have an ivory head* attached and silk clothing in relief, enhanced with gouache. Bone frame finely pierced and engraved on both sides with garden scenes.
