Acephalus angel in marble. Standing, the angel stands with her arms crossed on her chest, the index finger of her right hand in a gesture of designation; she is dressed in a long tunic, blousoned at the waist, the neckline lined with a braid, the sleeves at the wrists also lined with a braid bear a wide band decorated with rhombuses in a quatrefoil; stole crossed on her chest, the ends of which fall laterally, decorated with paté crosses. Tuscany, Siena, attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio (Colle di Va d'Elsa around 1245, Florence around 1302), around 1280/1290 Height: 45.7 cm Base (visible lacks) Several details in this angel refer to the way of the Sienese sculptor and architect Arnolfo di Cambio or di Lapo: the gesture of the hands, the ornamental braids of the clothes, the fluidity of the drapes. The two thuriferous figures of the Church of San Domenico in Orvieto (around 1282, fig. a and b) as the figure opening one of the curtains of the burial of the Cardinal of Braye († 1282, fig. c) also in Orvieto or the man of acephalous law from a fountain visible at the National Gallery of Umbria in Peruges (around 1280, fig. d) give examples.
