Original drawing. Female figure with feline head in historical strawberry costume. 36 x 21 cm, India ink wash with slight watercolour highlights; framed under glass.
Probably a costume for the character of Agathe from the ballet Les demoisell es de la nuit. Conceived on the basis of an argument by Jean Anouilh, this show had as characters cats and cats taking on a human appearance, including Agathe who wanted to love a man. Les Demoiselles de la nuit was premiered by the Ballets de Paris on May 21, 1948, at the Théâtre Marigny, in a choreography by Roland Petit, to music by
Jean Françaix, with masks by Sforzino Sforza, and costumes and sets by Leonor Fini.
On the back of the frame, a handwritten note in pencil: "Léonor Fini pour Raymond Gérôme".
Writer, actor and director, Raymond Gérôme called on Leonor Fini to design the sets and costumes for several of the shows he staged in the 1960s.
