Provenance:
Paris, Hôtel Drouot, Ader, Picard, Tajan, 5 December 1991, n° 31, p. 36 where it is reproduced in colour (Abraham de Verwer, View of Paris from the Petit Louvre and the Grande Galerie facing the Hôtel de Nevers from the Pont Barbier)
"Through this picturesque view, we can see: the Porte Neuve and the Tour du Bois still attached to the Grande Galerie du Louvre, in the extension of the Quai Malaquais, part of the Seine closed by the Pont-Neuf, and on the opposite bank, the Tour de Nesle and the Hôtel de Nevers, together destroyed between 1641 and 1663 to be replaced by the Collège des Quatre Nations" (Guy Herdebaut and Alain Latreille experts).
A comparable view of Paris with the large Galerie du Louvre, painted on a panel (53.5 x 88 cm) during the artist's stay in Paris between 1637-1645, is preserved in Paris at the Musée Carnavalet (see Paintings of the Musée Carnavalet. Catalogue sommaire P. 332, p. 409-Paris musées 1999).
