[The writer Carl EINSTEIN (1885-1940) had to leave Germany after his conviction for blasphemy caused by his play Die Schlimme Botschaft, and settled in France.] Cocteau attaches "the utmost importance to being translated into German". You have to write to Man Ray for the photo, to the Siren, Stock and the N.R.F. for the texts. "I'd like to have Thomas the Impostor translated."... Another L.A.S., 22 January 1950 (1 p. in-4) is attached: "Unfortunately, I could not come to Brussels because of the work of Orpheus and the terrible children. And I'm coming to it anyway - that's telling you that I'm jumping from one train to another"....
