A sound breadth of experience has been built following a long career in the Valuations, European and Oriental Ceramics departments at Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, London from 1992 to 2008.</p><p>Alastair has prepared post-theft and damage valuation reports for various insurance companies, law firms and museums around the world including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge in 2012 and the theft of Chinese ceramics and the West Norway Museum of Applied Art, Bergen, Norway in 2013.</p><p>Alastair offers discreet independent consultancy advice for fine art valuation companies and auction houses. In 2012, 2016 and 2018 Alastair consulted on the successful sales of large family collections of Chinese porcelain and works of art with The Canterbury Auction Galleries, including the sale of a rare Chinese porcelain ‘chicken cup’ for £155,000 in 2012.</p><p>In 2018 Alastair advised on a unique ‘Tiger Ying’ archaic bronze, dating from the Western Zhou Dynasty, with a provenance going back 158 years to the Opium Wars. Acquired by a British Naval officer, Captain Harry L. Evans, R.M., it sold at auction for £508,400.</p><p>Alastair has also advised on the acquisition and disposal of private collections of Chinese ceramics and works of art, which has included mediation within acrimonious divorce proceedings, complicated by international respondents and the cultural and legal differences that this entailed.</p><p><br></p><p>Since 2020 Alastair has concentrated on developing Alastair Gibson Auctions and held his first live auction in London in November 2021.</p><p class="ql-align-center">The auction totalled over £881,000 and featured objects from the H. G. Beasley (1881 – 1939) collection, the Diana M.
