Régis Loisel (Né en 1951)

Internationally coveted, this rare violin made in Cremona in 1736 was acquired by a musician on June 3 at Aguttes, in Neuilly. Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarnerius, known as "del Gesù", is considered one of the greatest violin makers in history. Only 150 of his instruments are still in existence.

A well-known figure throughout northern France, he was passionate about abstract art. Born in 1952, in Campagne-lès-Hesdin, Régis Dorval opened his first gallery in Le Touquet at the age of 22, then the second one in Lille in 1984, under his name. He exhibited Herbin, Poliakoff, Chu Teh-chun and Dodeigne.

Many lots were preempted: 41 letters written from Austerlitz will go to the Ministry of the Armed Forces archives, the Memoirs of Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès will join the library of Montpellier & 7 letters by King François I will go to the National Archives, which include 6 chapters of the Napoleon's Memoirs.

Time and patience were the key factors in the auction house's ability to assemble a coherent, high-quality ensemble of works of art, furniture and carpets from a wide variety of provenances. It took three years, but the gamble paid off.

A love letter and historical documents set the auction alight, and several preemptions honored the duty to remember.
