Olivier Debré (1920-1999)

A landscape painter of great feeling, Olivier Debré tirelessly returned to the places he loved in Touraine, where he spent his childhood and set up his studio.

Travel was a constant source of inspiration for this painter from the Loire. One of his last trips took him to the land of the Aztecs. It inspired several works, two of which are presented in this sale.

The Mayfair-based gallery now represents the French painter, a major figure of lyrical abstraction who died in 1999. It will dedicate a first exhibition to him in London in June 2023.

Olivier Metzger died on Nov 2 in a road accident in Arles, where he lived. His work was exhibited at the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie, at the Hermès Foundation in Bern and at the House of Photography in Moscow. He regularly collaborated with Libération, Les Echos, Elle and Télérama.  

Olivier Donat was appointed Managing Director of Mucem (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations) in Marseille, where he succeeds Catherine Sentis, who held the position since 2013. Donat has, among other things, co-directed the Institut d'art contemporain de Villeurbanne and Lam de Villeneuve d'Ascq.

Swiss curator Marc-Olivier Wahler blazed a trail in contemporary art institutions in Europe and the United States before rising to a new challenge: bringing the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva into the 21st century.

Situated on rue Mazarine, in Saint-Germain, for 15 years, and in Miami for 10 years, Olivier Waltman opens a new space in the Marais. The gallery triples its space to a 1722 sq ft. It will open on September 18 with a solo show by François Bard, whose last exhibition was in 2017.

Based in Saint-Germain-des-Prés for 15 years, and in Miami since 2019, the gallery owner on Rue Mazarine is opening a new space in the Marais with an exhibition of works by François Bard, on view until October 16.

Prompted by a lack of opportunities for inspiration and collaboration during the pandemic, the home of former director of Pierre Yovanovitch's New York studio has been completely transformed. It is filled with the works of designers and artists, many of whom created pieces specifically for the project. (Dezeen)
