“I owe it all to Boudin,” used to say Claude Monet. His vision of nature, light, brisk strokes and, especially, atmospheric nuances made the master of skies a forerunner of Impressionism.

The painter’s interest in water throughout his career took him from Bordeaux to Paris, Algeria—and Normandy, as this view of Honfleur harbor attests.

From March 10 to 13, the fair invites its visitors to a walk in the Lille metropolis. Ticket holders will be able to discover the Saint-Joseph chapel of the Catholic University of Lille, Johan Creten's "Bestiary" at the Piscine de Roubaix and Agnès Thurnauer's exhibition at LaM.

Claude Monet's depiction of the famous 80 m/263 ft-high Aval cliff and arch in Étretat soared to €381,000 on December 5 in Rennes. Painted in 1864 the artwork was featured in La Gazette #43. The painter stayed regularly in Normandy in the early 1860s, reviving his interest in Boudin and Jongkind.

Under the watchful eye of the master Johan Joachim Winckelmann, the German art historian considered to be one of the fathers of neoclassicism, this young draughtsman was the chief attraction in this Clermont-Ferrand sale, though finally attributed to a different artist.

In 1864, Claude Monet painted this rare, early oil on canvas of the Aval Cliff, an emblematic work that has been in a Breton private collection for nearly 25 years.

The museum in The Hague will open a permanent exhibition 24 September exposing Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen’s involvement in trading enslaved people, as well as the Dutch role generally, and displaying relevant artworks. Maurits was governor of Dutch Brazil and funded his townhouse with money from sugar plantations.

Accessible online from May 28, the three-day event is to be moderated by professors Johan Bettum and Daniel Birnbaum. It focuses on the role of augmented reality and virtual reality in architecture and art. Speakers are from various disciplines, from art to neuroscience, and 13 different cities.
