Hector Guimard (1867-1942)

This perfume bottle designed by Hector Guimard achieved a beautiful result.

Though no introduction is needed for Hector Guimard, architect of Art Nouveau's volutes and the iconic entrances to the Paris metro, his collaboration with the perfume world is less well-known. This bottle reveals it in a waft of scent.

On the occasion of its first appearance in a public sale, a pedestal table, executed by Hector Guimard around 1899, has been preempted in Paris by the Parisian museum for €151,200. The champion of Art Nouveau elegantly combines walnut with marquetry of burr walnut, birch, maple, sycamore and mother of pearl.

This bottle, signed by the master of art nouveau, has increased its estimate tenfold today at Drouot, confirming the intuitions of the house of Copage. It was designed to house the Kantirix eau de toilette, named after the distant Mexico, more precisely the Yucatán plateau. 

The stone, brick and wrought iron Castel Val Villa, classified a historical monument in 2006, is on the market for €1.3 M by the Architecture de Collection agency. It was built by the Art Nouveau master Hector Guimard in 1903 for Louis Chanut, the brother-in-law of his friend and patron, the industrialist Léon Noval. 

Listed as a historical monument, the Hotel Mezzara and its garden are located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Celebrated Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard designed the mansion, which was built in 1910. The new tenant must commit to a 50-year lease and the restoration of the property. (Le Figaro)
