Frédéric Bazille (1841-1870)

After Degas, it is the turn of the Montpellier impressionist painter Frédéric Bazille to benefit from a complete and updated digital catalog raisonné of his work; that is to say 80 paintings, about thirty drawings and two albums listed by its author, the expert Michel Schulman to whom we owe several rediscoveries.

De Baecque et Associés is offering for sale, on May 13 in Room 6, a black pencil drawing by Frédéric Bazille from 1864 or 1869. With an estimate of €20,000/30,000, the work depicts a bather on a beach and was given to the art historian Henri Focillon by the artist's family in Montpellier in 1927.

The 36-year-old curator, who has been in charge of paintings at the Musée d'Orsay since 2014, will take up his new post on January 1.  He was the co-curator of the exhibitions "Frédéric Bazille. The Youth of Impressionism", "James Tissot. L'ambigu moderne" and "Enfin le cinéma!".

The art historian and museologist by training succeeds Anne Bourgois as Director of Communication, Patronage and Development. With his experience at Hermès and Van Cleef & Arpels, Hubin has become a specialist in the relationship between art and business. He will also be in charge of promoting the program.
