A Crucifixion scene from a private collection in Dordogne recalls the transitional role played by El Greco’s best student, bridging the gap between Mannerism and Baroque naturalism.

The Palazzo Reale is hosting the largest-ever retrospective of works made in Italy by el Greco (1541-1614), born Doménikos Theotokópoulos in Crete, then part of the Venetian Republic, where he learned to paint Byzantine icons.

Last November 30th, The Virgin and Child Enthroned by the Master of Vyšší Brod was knocked down for €6.2 M to the Filippo Benappi Gallery, working on behalf of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which had moved into action to give this painting its due honour.

The lavish Bronze Age burial sites include exquisitely crafted valuable objects, pointing to the prominent societal role of the women buried there. Located under the first palace unearthed in the region, the women’s prominence may well have derived from political power wielded in the building. (UAB)

The Ministry of Culture and Sports has acquired Crucifixion by El Greco for the El Greco Museum in Toledo for €1.5 million. This is the first work by the artist to enter the collections since its foundation in 1910. A painting that bears the influence of El Greco's stay in Italy.

Ghanaian artist and Golden Lion winner created the exhibition especially for and in connection with the history of the famous monument, using the 5 elements of nature: water, wind, wood, metal and stone. It is part of the Africa 2020 season and will run from December 2 to April 5.

A sale of counterfeit paintings, accompanied by falsified documents attesting to their authenticity, has been halted in Spain. A Toledo collector was planning to sell the fakes to buyers in Switzerland, Mexico and Germany. (El País)
