Though its subject seems somewhat unappealing today, The Triumph of Faith Over Heresy Through the Intercession of the Dominicans by Francesco Solimena (1657-1747) is an important work in many ways.

Francesco Guardi is famous for views of the Serenissima that convey the city's singular atmosphere. Here, we see the island of the Giudecca, dominated by the Church of Santa Maria della Presentazione.

It’s a beautiful view towards the Church of le Zitelle, which dominates Venice’s Giudecca island, cast in a monochrome of shimmering grays, blues and whites. Conserved in a private collection since 1915, this oil painting by the Venetian artist certainly saw success at Drouot, going for double its estimate.

The abstract artist, who began his public career in his late 60s, died of Covid-19 in Milan Italy, in his hometown. An important painting by Giovanni Francesco Guerrieri (1589-1655), Lot and His Daughters, sold for €475,064 at Dorotheum on June 8, setting a new world record for a work by the Italian painter. The previous record, set at €410,550 under the hammer of Porro & Cie, dates back to 15 November 2003 (Artnet). 

The bust, a unique bronze cast showing "great mastery of technique", realistically captures the features of Paul Phélypeaux, Lord of Pontchartrain. Attributed to Francesco Bordoni, disciple of Giambologna, it will be presented on November 20 by De Baecque with an estimate of €500,000/800,000.
