A man leans on a low wall looking at the landscape: a small village with buildings perched on top of a hill, with a few trees dotted around and a benevolent blue sky arching overhead. Could the man be Chaïm Soutine himself? In the spring of 1918, when the war was almost over, the painter left Paris for the south of France at the suggestion of art dealer Léopold Zborowski.
