On May 8 in Monte Carlo, HVMC sold an unusual oil on canvas by Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788) that had never come up for auction before: Landscape with Farmer, Milkmaid and Cows in front of a Cottage.
Appraised and estimated at €150,000 by Éric Turquin, the painting was influenced by Dutch realism, notably Jacob Van Ruisdael, and sparked a bidding war…
