This sale unveiled a treasure trove from the Mas des Hourtès in the Camargue (Southern France), and provided splendid recognition of the many-faceted tastes of its owner, Jean Lafont (1922-2017), ranging from troubadour art to Soviet realism by way of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

The latter movement stirred up bidders' passions with a wrought iron fire-screen by Pierre Chareau, which fetched €195,000. With regard to the friendship between its owner and Marie-Laure de Noailles, this piece with its impeccable provenance was particularly significant, because it came from the famous Villa Noailles, one of the very first modern-style buildings constructed in France.
