Empire period, 1811-1812. Sèvres, porcelain dinner set entitled "cabaret des femmes célèbres" ("cabaret of famous women") with polychrome half-length portraits of women in gold-framed medallions inscribed with each name, chromium green background decorated with garlands of flowers and fruits, ribbons, butterflies and swans in gold, the saucer centers embellished with an antique trophy in gold, marked "M. Imple de Sevres 1811 et 1812, Jaquotot pinxit" (detail).
Result: €262,500

Expected to sell for no more than €100,000, this Sèvres service finally made €262,500 at this Empire-themed sale. The director of the famous factory, Alexandre Brongniart , thus achieved success well beyond his century…
