The Russian-born artist was in the vanguard of the aesthetic revolution in the performing arts. He started collaborating with Sergei Diaghilev in 1899 and designed his first sets in 1900 for the stages of Imperial Russia. In Paris, Bakst continued working as a stage designer for the Ballets Russes, for which he created many costumes. His sources of inspiration…
