For decades, ceramic collectors beat a path to Jean Nicolier’s door on Quai Voltaire. The great scholar wrote several books about ceramics. On March 28, 1995, the Tajan Auction House, closing its doors, auctioned off a set of antique pieces that were in its stock for over F3.5M. The set offered today has been kept by the family. Jean Souverbie’s Jeune fille à sa fenêtre ( Girl at a Window ) , estimated at €5,000/8,000, dialogues with Francis Picabia’s 1946 Le Philosophe ( The Philosopher, see photo), which was acquired at a 1964 auction at the Palais Galliera and still has its original support.
