Among the silver pieces presented on Monday, August 1, in Morlaix - Saint-Martin-des-Champs, at the Dupont & Associés OVV sale, the box containing a silver coffee pot and its milk jug by the renowned silversmith and goldsmith Martin-Guillaume Biennais (1764-1843) is certainly the highlight.

  Biennais, The Emperor of Silversmiths

Bearing his hallmark and presented in its original case (h. 35 and 23 cm/13.7 and 9.05 in), this set features engraved images of swans, shells and palmettes inspired by classical antiquity on an amati or matt background. The set belonged to Gabriel-Julien Ouvrard (1770-1846), a great French financier who was also notably the banker of Napoleon I and French King Louis-Philippe; it was later given to Mrs. Thébaud, his sister-in-law, and has since been kept by his descendants.
