Camille Fauré (1874-1956), whose Art Deco vases display both creativity and remarkable technical skill, opened his enamel studio in Limoges in 1920. Taking advantage of a resurgence of interest in enamel and the popularity of decorative objects with the upper middle class, he combined geometric shapes with bold colors and applied silver foil to copper forms that had been crumpled for better adherence to create relief and light effects. Spirals, fiddleheads and crisscrossing motifs flourish on the pieces made between 1925 and 1930, the studio’s most prolific period. During the Great Depression, the focus shifted to flame and floral decorations to attract a wider clientele.
