An ice bucket or champagne bucket is mentioned in the "Green Ribbon" service Louis XV gave to Empress Maria Theresa in December 1758. In all the ceremonial services subsequently produced by the Sèvres Manufacture , there was at least one pair of them, meaning that the object had become an integral part of any service worth its salt.
