During the European Heritage Days, the public flocked to the rooms of the Arturo Lopez Hotel, which for the occasion became the refined setting for a fine selection of Old Master works going under the hammer with Aguttes. Given the success of this "Passion patrimoine" sale – with a result up by 29% on its first edition last year – a third event is now in the pipeline. The star lot of this afternoon sale was this canvas by Jean-Baptiste-Marie Pierre, which merrily swept far beyond its high estimate of €80,000. Apart from the prestige of his signature, it also stood out for its exceptional size and rarity: very few sketches for ceilings – the painter's speciality – have come down to us.
