It's in the bag! This new session in the Aristophil sales ended with an overview of literature incorporating French chanson and scientific writings. It was carried out in five stages by four auction houses, with no fewer than thirty-six pre-emptions. One was for Gustave Flaubert's autograph manuscript – one of the few still in private hands – of the "Mémoires d'un fou", carried off on 15 November by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF) for €364,000 under Ader's hammer. Maître Aguttes, the overall supervisor of the sale, could say in total sincerity that "buyers were reassured by the quality of the works, and the process set up to sell them." As a result, the percentage of lots knocked down was even higher, with a 70% average for lots sold, and a total result of €8.8 M.
