PATTE (Pierre). Mémoires sur les objets les plus importans de l'architecture. Paris, Rozet, 1769. In-4, 21 x 28 cm, 4 ff. 375 pp. 27 plates, 25 of which folded, contemporary binding in marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt motifs. First edition of this important practical treatise on construction and town planning, which had a major influence on the embellishment of Paris. One chapter describes the construction of the Louvre's famous colonnade. The 27 beautiful, highly detailed plates illustrate the author's theories, mainly through examples of Parisian structures. Engraved vignette on title. Architect and theorist, a pupil of Germain Boffrand and later assistant to Jacques-François Blondel, Pierre Patte (1723-1814) was architect to Duke Christian IV of Deux-Ponts, a renowned urban planner and a contributor to the Encyclopédie. A good copy. Early 19th-century MA bookplate. A few browned leaves, corrections made in ink in the early 19th century, marginal notes in pencil. Binding skilfully restored, spine rebacked.
