Antonio Bellucci (Venice or Soligo 1654 - Soligo 1726) Diana/Selene and Endymion Oil on canvas 122 x 150 cm The work is accompanied by a study by Dr. Dario Succi, available by email upon request. He began around 1674 his activity working in Padua, Ponzano and Vicenza. In 1691 he came into contact with the palatine court of John William II of Wittelsbach-Neuburg with whom he remained connected for more than twenty years, alternating commissions with those for the court of Vienna, the Elector of Mainz and the Prince of Liechtenstein, for whom he produced a decorative complex of forty canvases, in the very early years of the 18th century. After 1716 he went to England where he made, among other things, a ceiling at Buckingham Palace. Together with Sebastiano Ricci he was the precursor of the last great season of Venetian painting. He was able to interweave seemingly irreconcilable sources of inspiration, such as Ricci's neo-fifteenth-century flair, with the Baroque art of Antonio Zanchi and the more mulìebre art of Pietro Liberi.
