[ENGRAVING]. [VENICE]. BRUSTOLONI (GIOVANNI BATTISTA) Prospectuum aedium, viarumque insigniorum Urbis Venetiarum nautico certamine, a nundinis adiectis. [Venice], apud
L. Furlanetto, 1763.
In folio, havana half calf with lightly post-pasted corners, 6-ribbed spine, brown title page, gilt fleurons and roulettes (flaws including uncovered headpieces, corners emitted, spine rubbed; some soiling and staining in margins but not serious; browning along some central folds due to mitering; fold [5] tear to fold in margin but not missing).
Important suite of copper-engraved views of Venice by Giovanni Battista Brustoloni, most after Antonio Canaletto, some after Giambattista and Giuseppe Moretti, and some without artist's name.
Originally intended for 12 plates, this number was later increased to 22. Our copy contains 21 plates, before numbering and bearing Furnaletto's address. Each figure measures approx. 28 x 42 cm. Not all plates are printed on identical paper; some plates are printed on slightly yellow paper, with two types of stationer's marks: 3 crescents / W surmounted by a floral motif; and initials V and I (?) surmounted by 3 stars / Letter A.
Enriched endpaper with 2 optical views of Vienna squares, engraved after d'Erl by J.M. Sicerist, and published in Augburg (browned); and 2 other views engraved by M. Sichnit in Vienna in 1774, before the letter.
