Small in-4, dark green chagrin, smooth spine adorned with gilt and cold-engraved geometric and plant scrolls, framed by multiple gilt and cold-engraved fillets with gilt geometric and floral frieze, filleted edges, interior roulette, gilt edges (Corfmat r.).
(4 of which the last is blank)-viii-580 pp. with a dented start to the spine, corners and headband rubbed, foxing as usual.

ONE OF THE MOST CELEBRATED ROBINSONADES INSPIRED BY THE WORK OF DANIEL DEFOE, this time featuring an entire family, The Swiss Robinson was written between 1794 and 1798 by the Bernese pastor Johann David for the entertainment and edification of his son Johann Rudolph, who, having become a pastor and professor of philosophy, published the manuscript in four parts from 1812 to 1827, under the title Der Schweizerische Robinson.
Illustrated with woodcuts after Charles-Nicolas Lemercier by several artists: 6 plates on chine appliqué and 196 vignettes in the text.
