Jean-François Oeben (1721-1763)

18th century furniture, and more specifically the Transition style, shone at Osenat’s first "grands siècles" (great centuries) auction on October 20 at Versailles, with one chest of drawers from Jean-François Oeben (1721-1763) attaining four times its estimate at €90,000.

Painted when the artist was not yet famous, this seaside subject puts people at the center of the composition.

The jury chaired by collector Patrizia Sandretto has for the first time awarded two artists: the German Florian Krewer, based in New York and represented by Michael Werner, and the French Marine Wallon, working in Paris in collaboration with Catherine Issert. They will share the €20,000 prize money.

The provenance, size, quality and subject matter of this pastel by Millet should arouse plenty of interest.
