This long-lost painting by Vienna Secession artist Carl Moll has been in the same collection for over a century—probably since 1908. It depicts the influential Austrian art critic Berta Zuckerkandl-Szeps in her Josef-Hoffmann-designed interior.

The Viennese Secession artist and friend of Gustave Klimt's, has just beaten his world record at auction, under the hammer of the Philadelphia auction house. White Interior, painted in 1905, fetched $4.8 million after only 10 minutes of a telephone battle, won by a lucky American collector.

Das Klavierspiel, stolen by the Nazis in 1939, has been returned to the heirs of Henri Hinrichsen. Of some 1,500 works seized by German customs in 2012 at the home of Nazi-era art dealer Hildebrand Gurlitt’s son, it is the last of 14 definitively identified as having been looted by the Nazis to be restituted.

Jewish tobacco dealer Leo Bendel was forced to sell Der Hexenmeister (1875-80) to flee Nazi Germany; he died in Buchenwald concentration camp in 1939. The painting was bought for food manufacturing company Dr. Oetker, who have now tracked down Bendel’s heirs and returned it to them. 

The New York Foundation for the Arts has announced The Barbara and Carl Zydney Grant for Artists with Disabilities fund. In recognition of the specific hurdles faced by disabled artists, especially during the pandemic, it is awarding grants to New York artists. Applications close on June 15.

A painting by the celebrated German artist, Max Carl Friedrich Beckmann, is predicted to sell for between €20 M and 30 M at a Grisebach sale on December 1st.  Selbstbildnis Gelb-Rosa (Self-Portrait in Yellow and Pink, 1943) is the most significant artwork to be offered on the German market since 1945. The international gem and jewelry show already had one edition in May but has decided to put on a second at the request of its exhibitors from November 3 to 6 at Palexpo in Geneva. Alongside an exhibition for the 40th anniversary of the Fondation Igor Carl Fabergé will be an “Emerging Talents” space. (Fashion United)

The American museum has received a gift from New York philanthropists Betty and Carl Pforzheimer, comprising more than 200 works by 90 artists, including 40 pieces of historic European and American glass. The collection will be displayed in 2024 in the museum's future Pforzheimer Gallery.
