A couple of restaurateurs passionate about modern art assembled, in Paris and Cannes, a collection of demanding pieces, whose dispersal yielded some excellent surprises.

Sayed Haider Raza (1922-2016), Agrarian Landscape, 1961, oil on canvas, signed and dated “(19)61”, countersigned and marked on the back with “P-327’61” and “206 x 120 cm”, 120 x 200 cm/47.24 x 78.74 in.
Result: €4,754,500

An Indian collector paid €4,754,500 for Sayed Haider Raza’s Agrarian Landscape , the second-highest price ever paid for a work by the artist (source: Artnet) and the highest outside his native India . Dated 1961, the eagerly awaited painting had been acquired by its former owners, Monsieur and Madame C. (a famous couple who owned great Parisian restaurants) from the Vinci g allery in Paris before becoming the highlight of their collection. Hans Hartung’s radical experiments also appealed to the collectors’ interest…
