The monarch’s life at Versailles was a continuous public performance. Her refuge from court protocol, the “Petit Trianon” housed a secret theater, understated from the outside, but with an ornate interior. The “make-believe”, decorated with papier-maché and wax, has now been restored. (Apollo)
