A Major Phidias Exhibition in Rome

The Capitoline Museums have organized the first monographic exhibition dedicated to the legendary sculptor Phidias, who was at the healm of Pericles' fame at the Parthenon. An exhibition that seeks to fill in the gaps of what is known about his life.

“No artist will ever surpass Phidias,” said Rodin , whose work Pallas au Parthénon greets visitors to the exhibition devoted to the Greek sculptor. This choice by curator Claudio Parisi Presicce is surprising: For if Rodin raised Phidias, alongside Michelangelo, to the rank of absolute genius, one would expect to be greeted by the master of the exhibition.
